Marshall County is the birthplace of Civil War General Nathan Bedford Forrest in the town of Chapel Hill. Three prominent Marshall Countians have served as Governor of Tennessee: Henry Horton, Jim Nance McCord and Buford Ellington. Henry Horton State Park, Rock Creek Park and the scenic Duck River are all located here. We have the headquarters of the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association along with many events such as the Goats, Music & More Festival, the Forrest Homecoming & Southern Hospitality Festival, Christmas Parades and the Lions Super Pull of the South to name a few take place annually. LEWISBURG RECREATION CENTER A 71-acre park with a 55,000 sq. ft. multi-use recreational facility, a 320,000 gallon outdoor pool, 1/2 mile walking track, children's exploration playground, 9-hole golf course, tennis courts and more. The recreation center contains: 2 basketball courts, an indoor walking track, 2 indoor pools with a hot tub, an aerobic studio, a fitness room, 2 racquetball courts, 2 meeting rooms, and a pro shop that serves food. A public facility owned and operated by the City of Lewisburg and open to all. Hours Mon-Fri 6 am - 9 pm Sat. 8 am -5 pm and Sun 1 pm- 5pm. THE LADIES REST ROOM In 1924 Marshall County built and designated a new building located on the town square to serve as the Ladies Rest Room. This historic structure is a rare but significant symbol of life in the early twentieth century. This building is a symbol of the Agricultural Reform Movement as well as an important document of an earlier generation of town-country and gender relationship in the South.
MARSHALL COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM Located in the Hardison Annex, Lewisburg. Established in 1996 by the Marshall County Historical Society. Exhibits include primitive tools, examples of handmade furniture, medical apparatus and instruments, World War I and II memorabilia, vintage clothing and jewelry, old quilts, a Marshall Co. fossil collection, numerous old photographs, and twenty-five years of the Marshall County Historical Quarterly.
